Materials Incorporated In Beads

Beads can be made of many types of materials.

The earliest beads were made of convenient natural materials; when found, these could be readily drilled and shaped.

As human technology became capable of obtaining or working with more difficult natural materials, those were added to the range of available substances. The same was true of new synthetic materials when created.

In modern manufacturing, the most common bead materials are wood, plastic, glass, metal, and stone /Rock.
Origin of Beads

A bead is a small, decorative object that is usually pierced for threading or stringing.
Beads range in size from under 1 millimeter (0.039 in) to over 1 centimeter (0.39 in) in diameter.

A pair of beads made from Nassarius sea snail shells, approximately 100,000 years old, are thought to be the earliest known examples of jewelry.

Beadwork is the art or craft of making things with beads. Beads can be woven together with specialized thread,  strung onto thread or soft, flexible wire, or adhered to a surface (e.g. fabric, wood).

The Beginning Of A Bead In The Hand

When Judith Williams was a little girl, her greatest love was beads and she admired and played with them constantly.

Her mother often said "Judy was born with a bead in her hand". When Judith was planning to open a bead store, what better name could she choose?

In January of 2009, A Bead In The Hand was a reality! The store was opened by the long time Inverness resident and is operated by Judith and managed by her very competent daughter Michele.

Among MANY other things, the store offers all sorts of beads from around the world, standard AND hard to get findings made from base metals AND precious metals, Sterling Silver jewelry AND charms, gemstone and beaded ready to wear jewelry and fine pewter figurines and much, much more!

Of course, A Bead In The Hand also carries beading looms, boards and quality tools well as string, wire, chain and other beading and jewelry making supplies.

Judith says "Our Customers love the extensive variety of stock, the service offered by our store, and of course, our reasonable prices".
"We try to work personally with each Customer to help them find exactly what they need".

To contact A Bead In The Hand, simply e-mail to: beadladies@abeadinthehand.com; call the store at (352) 637-6846; or come by and browse at 2602 State Road 44 - (Gulf to Lake Highway) - in Inverness, Florida - They are next to Gist RV and across from Papa Johns Pizza.

The Store also offers beading and jewelry making classes where you can gain knowledge that will allow you to create your own fabulous creations. You may call the store for more information or go online to www.abeadinthehand.com for schedule information.
